Severn Wye Energy Agency were asked to carry out renewable energy Project Development Studies under the Community Sustainable Energy Programme (CSEP). The reports have shown that the installation of solar and wind renewable energy technologies are feasible in both buildings.
Successful applications have been made to the Low Carbon Buildings Programme Phase 2 (LCBP), the Community Sustainable Energy Programme (CSEP) and Cheltenham Borough Council (CBC) to install a wind turbine in Springfield Park and Photo Voltaic cells (solar panels) on the roof of the Hesters Way Community Centre. These technologies will supply electricity to our two Community Centres.
Planning permission for the Springbank projects were granted by Cheltenham Borough Council on 19th November 2009 and for the Hesters Way Project in June 2010 .
The Springbank wind turbine was installed during March 2010 and an opening event held at Springbank Community Resource Centre in April 23rd. The photo voltaic cells (solar panels) was installed on the roof of the Hesters Way Community Centre before the end of July 2010.
